The ExxonMobil Foundation and JA Africa have joined forces to launch the “ExxonMobil STEM Africa” initiative, a groundbreaking program aimed at promoting science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) education across the African continent. With a budget of $300,000, this program will provide approximately 3,000 students from Nigeria, Namibia, Angola, and Mozambique with valuable STEM skills and problem-solving abilities.

Through immersive quizzes and hands-on experiences at Innovation Camps, the ExxonMobil STEM Africa program will equip middle and high school students with the necessary skills to excel in future STEM careers. These camps, facilitated by JA Africa, will introduce innovative approaches to addressing STEM-related challenges and foster critical thinking among participating students.

As part of the program, teams of students will have the opportunity to present their STEM solutions and represent their respective countries at a major regional industry conference in Cape Town, South Africa. This conference will not only provide students with cross-cultural exposure but also offer them a platform to showcase their ideas and connect with industry leaders. It is a unique opportunity for students to gain insights into global perspectives on energy and contribute to shaping Africa’s future.

In an era driven by technology and innovation, Africa’s position at the forefront of technological advancements is crucial for sustainable development and maintaining competitiveness. JA Africa President and CEO, Simi Nwogugu, expresses gratitude to the ExxonMobil Foundation for their partnership in nurturing STEM competencies among African youth. By equipping students with STEM skills, this collaboration aims to shape Africa’s future and ensure its continued growth and prosperity.
