The European Union (EU) has opened its 2025 Study in Europe Fair, encouraging Nigerian students to explore a wide range of academic programs and study opportunities across Europe.

Organized by the EU Delegation in Nigeria in collaboration with EU Member States, the fair took place simultaneously in Lagos and Kano, offering students firsthand access to representatives from European universities and higher education institutions.

The event aims to promote European higher education, showcase research and scholarship opportunities, and bridge the information gap for Nigerian students seeking to study abroad.

Speaking at the event, EU Ambassador to Nigeria and ECOWAS, Gautier Mignot, emphasized that the fair not only expands academic prospects but also fosters cultural exchange between Nigeria and European countries.

He noted that by connecting Nigerian students with representatives from European universities, the event broadens their educational horizons and helps them make informed decisions about studying abroad. He also highlighted the role of the fair in encouraging collaboration between academic institutions, leading to joint research projects, student exchanges, and enhanced knowledge-sharing.

Mignot acknowledged that many Nigerian students struggle to access information about study opportunities in Europe and stressed that the fair helps bridge this gap by providing details on scholarships, funding options, and application processes.

He further explained that the event allows students to interact with professors and university representatives from various European countries who can guide them on academic and research opportunities, visa procedures, and the practical aspects of studying and living abroad.

He also highlighted the Erasmus+ program, which supports international student mobility, vocational training, and higher education initiatives. Additionally, the EU remains committed to supporting other educational programs in Nigeria, including initiatives focused on basic education, technical and vocational training, higher education, and scientific research.

Encouraging students, alumni, and educators to take full advantage of these opportunities, Mignot expressed optimism that fostering stronger educational ties between Africa and Europe would strengthen economies and create a brighter future for all.
