Former Governor of Bayelsa State, Senator Henry Seriake Dickson, has emphasized that education remains the most effective tool for eradicating poverty and improving the lives of citizens.
Speaking at his country home in Toru-Orua, Sagbama Local Government Area of Bayelsa State, during a visit by close family members, Dickson reiterated that investment in education is crucial for human capital development and empowerment.
During the gathering, the Bayelsa West lawmaker received the doctoral degree certificate of his younger brother, Dr. Moses Oruaze Dickson. Reflecting on the significance of the moment, he highlighted his commitment to education throughout his eight-year tenure as governor, where he implemented transformative policies that reshaped the sector.
Dickson underscored the importance of prioritizing education within the family, stating that he has always encouraged his siblings to pursue academic excellence. He expressed pride in his family’s achievements, noting that from humble beginnings, they now celebrate their first PhD holder.
“Today is a moment of great joy for me,” Dickson said. “My younger brother, who is like a son to me, Dr. Moses Oruaze Dickson, has officially presented his PhD. This achievement is not just historic but deeply emotional. I have always believed in supporting and encouraging him to reach new heights in education.”
He reaffirmed that education is the foundation of human capacity development and a driving force for societal progress, a passion he continues to uphold even after leaving office.
Congratulating his brother, Dickson described the milestone as significant, not just because Moses is the first PhD holder in their family, but also because he fulfilled a dream their father could not accomplish.
As the founder of Hensard University, a private institution in Toru-Orua dedicated to providing quality education, Dickson encouraged his brother to continue striving for excellence.
“I have always advised you to fish in deep waters, not in the shallow where small fishes and crayfish gather. With this PhD, you have a great opportunity to excel in academia and legal practice. I look forward to seeing you become a professor or a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) in the near future—both of which are within your reach,” he said.
Dickson assured his unwavering support for his brother’s future endeavors, urging him to keep pushing boundaries and achieving greater heights.
