David Umahi Federal University of Health Sciences, Uburu, in Ohaozara Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, has taken disciplinary action against 14 students over alleged examination misconduct, theft, and poor academic performance.

The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Jesse Uneke, announced the sanctions on Saturday during the university’s 4th matriculation ceremony.

According to Uneke, two students were expelled for examination malpractice, three were suspended for a year for theft, and five received a one-semester suspension for the same offence. Additionally, three students were withdrawn due to poor academic performance.

He emphasized the institution’s strict disciplinary policies, urging students to stay focused on their studies and avoid any actions that could jeopardize their education.

“This university maintains very strict discipline, and violations of our rules and regulations are met with firm consequences,” Uneke stated.

The Vice-Chancellor also highlighted the institution’s rapid growth, noting that it has expanded from just 26 students in 2021 to 2,496 students. This year alone, 990 new students were admitted.

In addition, Uneke disclosed that the university’s cancer treatment center has been actively providing care, having treated 200 patients from various parts of Nigeria as of December 2024. The center’s services have now been expanded to include chemotherapy, with an official flag-off scheduled for March 8, 2025.
