CASIO Middle East and Africa FZE, a subsidiary of CASIO Computer Co., Ltd., has introduced a new edition of its calculator, the fx-9910NG PLUS 2nd Edition, designed specifically for the Nigerian education system. The launch event took place yesterday at the Black Diamond Hotel in Lagos, highlighting CASIO’s dedication to supporting Nigerian educators and students.
The fx-9910NG PLUS 2nd Edition offers a range of advanced functionalities, including differential calculation, integrations, complex numbers, matrix and vector calculations, and more. This innovative tool is expected to significantly enhance learning experiences in science, mathematics, and engineering.
Mr. Takashi Seimiya, Managing Director of CASIO Middle East and Africa FZE, expressed his excitement about the launch, noting the positive impact it will have on Nigerian education. He mentioned, “Following our successful training program for 1,200 teachers on using calculators with Inquiry-Based Learning, we are thrilled to deepen our footprint in Nigeria with the fx-9910NG PLUS 2nd Edition. This calculator embodies our commitment to delivering top-notch support and innovation to Nigerian educators and students.”
The event was attended by key figures in the Nigerian education sector, including the Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Lagos State, Mr. Jamiu Tolani Alli-Balogun; the Permanent Secretary, Minister of Basic and Secondary Education, represented by Mrs. Omolayo Akinlade Olatomorin, Director of the Education Resource Center; and other notable attendees from CASIO and the Federal Ministry of Education.
Mrs. Akinlade Omolayo Olatomirin commented on the collaboration with CASIO, highlighting the benefits of the new model. She said, “Our collaboration with CASIO Middle East and Africa FZE has been remarkable. Equipping educators with the skills needed for inquiry-based learning using the CASIO calculator has been inspiring. The new non-programmable model is a long-awaited technology that must be embraced by all educators and examining bodies.”
During the event, students from various secondary schools participated in a Mathematical Quiz competition using the new CASIO calculators. The winners were Lawal Ismail from Falomo Senior High School in 1st place, Bada AbdulSalam from Oriwu Senior Model College in 2nd place, and Chinenye Oforma from Canterbury International School in 3rd place. They received cash prizes of 500,000 Naira, 250,000 Naira, and 100,000 Naira, respectively.
CASIO’s commitment to supporting educational activities continues beyond the launch, with ongoing efforts to enhance educators’ knowledge and foster innovation and problem-solving in Nigerian classrooms through the use of genuine scientific calculators.
