Christopher Olamiju, who serves as the Deputy Registrar at the Federal College of Education (Technical) in Akoka, Lagos State, has called on the Federal Government to help resolve a serious issue at the college. He made this plea because many staff members are demanding that Dr. Wahab Azeez, the current provost, step down from his position.
In an interview with News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Saturday, Olamiju clarified that staff members believe Dr. Azeez’s five-year term as provost, which began on May 26, 2019, has ended. They are advocating for a new leader to take charge of the college.
The situation became more tense when Dr. Azeez claimed that a group of staff members, known as the ‘Concerned Staff,’ were trying to force him out of his house on campus. He also said this group was causing disruptions to classes and other college activities.
In response, Olamiju refuted Dr. Azeez’s claims, stating that the ‘Concerned Staff’ have not engaged in any protests or illegal activities. He also criticized Dr. Azeez’s management, claiming it has set back the college by ten years.
“We need someone to temporarily take over as provost until we choose a new one,” Olamiju insisted. He pointed out that when other top officials like the bursar and registrar finished their terms, they left their roles smoothly and were replaced by acting officials.
During a virtual press conference, Dr. Azeez claimed that the ‘Concerned Staff’ had been causing disturbances since May 27 and had given him a week to leave his house. He said this situation was making it difficult for students and staff to work peacefully at the college.
Now, all eyes are on the Federal Government to intervene and restore stability to the Federal College of Education (Technical) in Akoka, Lagos State. The resolution of this conflict is crucial for the college to continue its educational mission smoothly.
