The Imperial College London is offering a number of Shawki Saad Scholarships to support sub-Saharan African students to study in any of its areas of research. 

The Imperial College London Shawki Saad Scholarship will fully cover the cost of overseas tuition fees for 3 years, maintenance stipends of £20,622 for 3.5 years, and travel costs (flight and visa) for the successful applicant.

Scholarship Details 

The Shawki Saad Scholarship is a fully funded programme to support students ordinarily resident in Sub-Saharan Africa. The programme is funded by a generous endowed gift from the late Professor Shawki Saad, with one scholarship awarded each year between 2023-2026.

The new scholarship programme was announced alongside a student prize for sustainability-related research in sub-Saharan Africa.

The student prize and scholarship will help College efforts to tackle global systemic challenges in engineering and sustainability.

Eligibility Criteria 

To be eligible for this scholarship, applicants must:

  • Be a sub-Saharan African student
  • Hold a Bachelors degree
  • Be applying to study a PhD at the Imperial College London
  • Meet the requirements for a PhD degree at the college

Scholarship Benefits 

Successful applicants of this scholarship will receive:

  • Fully cost of overseas tuition fees for 3 years
  • Maintenance stipend of £22,000 for for 3.5 years
  • The travel costs (flight and visa)
