The Beijing Government Scholarship (BGS) is an initiative by the Beijing Municipal Government.
The scholarship is for excellent international students who seek to pursue degrees at Higher Education Institutions (hereinafter referred to as HEIs) in Beijing.

Scholarship Details
The Beijing Government scholarships are available for those pursuing Undergraduate, Master’s, and Doctoral degrees for the year 2025 and will continue on an annual basis.
The scholarship is available to non-Chinese students with good health and academic excellence.
Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for this scholarship, applicants must:
- Be non-Chinese nationals in good health.
Educational Background and Age Limit:
- Undergraduate applicants: Must have completed high school and be under 30 years old.
- Masters applicants: Must hold a Bachelor’s degree and be under 35 years old.
- Doctoral applicants: Must possess a Master’s degree and be under 40 years old.
- Advanced studies applicants: Should have an undergraduate degree or be in their second university year, and be under 50 years old.
- Language study applicants: Must have a high school diploma and be under 60 years old.
- Visiting scholars: Should hold at least a Master’s degree, or an associate professorship, and be under 50 years old.
- Language Proficiency: Based on the requirements of the chosen academic program and set by the respective institution.
- Exclusion for Recipients of Other Scholarships: Those already receiving financial aid from other Chinese government programs or organizations/agencies are not eligible for this scholarship.
Scholarship Benefits
Successful applicants of this scholarship will receive:
- 40,000 RMB/year for a Doctoral degree
- 30,000 RMB/year for a Masters degree
- 20,000 RMB/year/ for a Bachelor degree
- 10,000 RMB/year for a Senior training or long term language program
- 5,000 RMB/year for Exchange students or students with outstanding contributions to international education in Beijing
Required Documents
To apply for this scholarship, applicants must prepare:
- Application Form for Beijing Government Scholarship (Applicants shall obtain the form from the Higher Education Institutions or download the form from the website of the targeted HEIs).
- Notarized highest diploma and transcripts.
- Foreigner Physical Examination Form should be provided if the duration of study is six months or above.
- Study plan (no less than 400 words) or research plan (no less than 800 words) in Chinese or English should be submitted for degree or research students.
- Applicants for music and art are requested to submit the applicants’ own works according to the requirements of the target HEIs.
- Applicants under 18 should provide legal documents of their legal guardians in China.
How to Apply
To apply for this scholarship:
- Visit the program’s webpage
- Submit an application for admission to the qualified universities in Beijing.
- These institutions will send the Scholarship Admission Notice, Admission Notice and Visa Application Form for Study in China (JW201) to applicants three months before the study begins.
- The applications will be regarded as invalid and will not be accepted if applicants fail to meet the eligibility or the application materials are incomplete.
- The host institutions will make a yearly review of the scholarship students’ performances.
