University of Sheffield Allan & Nesta Ferguson Scholarships offer scholarships for international students from developing countries for a number of courses that are affiliated with the Sheffield Institute for International Development.

Each University of Sheffield Allan and Nesta Ferguson Scholarship provides funding that covers the full tuition fee of the selected candidates and a maintenance stipend of £12,500.

Scholarship Details 

The University of Sheffield is offering the 3 Allan and Nesta Ferguson Charitable Trust master’s scholarships to eligible overseas fee-paying students starting their studies in September 2025.

The University of Sheffield has a strong commitment to international development. 

Eligibility Criteria 

To be eligible for this scholarship, applicants must:

  • Hold an offer for one of the following courses to study at the University of Sheffield in the 2025-26 academic year:
  • International Development MA
  • Environmental Change and International Development MSc
  • International Development (Masters in Public Health) MPH
  • International Law and Global Justice LLM
  • International Political Economy MA
  • Global Journalism MA
  • International Public and Political Communication MA
  • Be classified as overseas for tuition fee purposes.
  • Applicants must not already hold a qualification that is of an equivalent or higher level to the course you are applying for.
  • Not have previously studied outside of your country of residence.
  • Ne self-funded to receive this award, ie not funded by a research council, government, private enterprise, charity or any similar organisation.
  • This scholarship cannot be awarded in conjunction with any other funding awards, either from the University of Sheffield or external sources.
  • Applicants mode of attendance must be full-time.
  • Applicants must begin their studies at the University of Sheffield in 2025. This scholarship cannot be deferred.
  • Receipt of the scholarship is subject to successfully meeting any condition(s) attached to your offer before the deadline provided by the Admissions Service.
  • Receipt of the scholarship is subject to successfully receiving a visa to study at the University in September 2025.
  • You must be a national of, or permanently domiciled, in one of the low or lower middle income countries as classified by the World Bank in 2025;

Scholarship Benefits 

Successful applicants of this scholarship will receive:

  • A full tuition fee waiver
  • A £12,500 Maintenance Stipend 

How to Apply 

To apply for this scholarship:

  • Hold an offer for one of the postgraduate courses starting at the University in September 2025. It may take up to 24 hours to be able to access the form after you have received your offer.
  • Once you have received an offer, you will need to apply using your MUSE for offer holders login.
  • The deadline to apply is 1pm (UK time) on Monday 2 June 2025.
  • All eligible applicants who apply before the deadline will be contacted regarding the outcome of their application before Friday 18 July 2025.
