Scholarship Details 

The German Bundestag Scholarship is aimed at training African students who want to take an active and responsible role in shaping the democratic future of their countries.

The scholarship considers applicants who are interested in the German parliamentary system and are actively committed to basic democratic values ​​in their home countries.

Eligibility Criteria 

To be eligible for The German Bundestag Scholarship, applicants must:

  • Be from Botswana, Namibia, South Africa (Southern Africa); Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda (East Africa); Ghana, Nigeria, Senegal (West Africa)
  • Be below 30 at the start of the scholarship on January 1st
  • Have completed university studies
  • Be proficient in German (at least B2 level)
  • Have strong interest in political contexts as well as social/political commitment

Scholarship Benefits 

Successful applicants of The German Bundestag Scholarship will receive:

  • €700, free accommodation, travel expenses coverage, and health, accident, and liability insurance
  • Internship: One-week placement in a German Bundestag member’s office
  • Curriculum: In-depth knowledge of parliamentary democracy, political decision-making, and workshops on societal issues

  • Passport photo
  • Letter of Recommendation
  • Letter of motivation in German with your handwritten signature (maximum two pages)
  • Copy of passport or copy ID
  • Degree certificate from the university
  • Proof of German Language proficiency
