The Swedish Institute Women in STEM Scholarship welcomes women from countries in Africa and Asia to lead change, tackle global challenges, and develop lasting solutions.

The SI Scholarship Pioneering Women in STEM covers full tuition coverage, a monthly stipend of $12,000, and a travel grant of $15,000 for selected candidates.

Scholarship Details

The SI Scholarship Pioneering Women in STEM is an academic scholarship provided for full-time, one- or two-year, master’s studies in designated programmes in Sweden.

The Swedish Institute Women in STEM Scholarship welcomes women from 10 countries in Africa and Asia to apply for our fully funded scholarship, aimed at those ready to lead change, tackle global challenges, and develop lasting solutions. 

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for this scholarship, applicants must:

  • Be a female citizen of one of the 10 eligible countries (Bangladesh, Indonesia, Kenya, Malaysia, Nigeria, Philippines, Rwanda, South Africa, Thailand, Vietnam).
  • Follow the steps of University Admissions and be admitted to one of the eligible master’s programmes on the day of admissions announcements.
  • The scholarship is available for designated master’s programmes in STEM, focusing on one or more core areas: Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM). 

Scholarship Benefits

Successful applicants of the scholarship will receive:

  • Full tuition fee coverage : The fee is paid directly by SI to your Swedish university at the beginning of each semester.
  • A monthly stipend of SEK 12,000 : This covers your living expenses throughout the study period.
  • A travel grant of SEK 15,000: This is a one-time payment and does not apply for students already living in Sweden.
  • Membership in the SI Network for Future Global Professionals (NFGP) – a platform to help you grow professionally and build a network while in Sweden.
  • After your scholarship period has ended, you become a member of the SI Alumni Network. As a member, you get a unique opportunity for continued networking and professional development.

To apply for this scholarship:

Select a master´s programme.

Apply through University Admissions

  • Apply for the master’s programme through universityadmissions.se.
  • When you have applied for one, or more, of the designated master’s programmes through University Admissions and fulfill all criteria, you are automatically considered for the scholarship.

Let SI know you have applied

Receive notifications from University Admissions and SI

  • 27 March Receive notification from University Admissions regarding acceptance to the programme.
  • 24 April Receive notification from the Swedish Institute regarding acceptance to the scholarship.
