Scholarship Details
UCL, alongside The Bartlett Faculty, and individual departments within the Faculty offer a range of financial awards aimed at assisting both prospective and current students with their studies.
The Bartlett Promise seeks to enable students from backgrounds which are underrepresented in The Bartlett, to pursue postgraduate studies at The Bartlett, UCL’s Faculty of the Built Environment.
Applicants are required to meet Bartlett’s academic requirements. He or she must apply for admission to a Bartlett master’s course. After this, applicants’ application and academic abilities will be assessed by the department applied to.
Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for the University College London Bartlett Promise Scholarship, applicants must:
- Residency: Be a national of one of The Bartlett’s approved list of Sub-Saharan African (SSA) countries and resident in an eligible SSA country.
- Citizenship: Must not hold a British or dual British citizenship.
- First Time Beneficiary: Must not have received at any time in the past or be in receipt of any funding for a master’s or equivalent qualification, at any university which is outside The Bartlett’s approved list of SSA counties at the time of applying up to 1 October 2026
- Offer of Admission: Have an offer of admission to a Bartlett master’s course for study in 2025-26 which is either unconditional or conditional only on English language assessment by 28 March 2025.
- Statement of Need: be in financial need as assessed by UCL.
Scholarship Benefits
Successful applicants of the program will receive:
- Full overseas tuition fees and an annual allowance of £16,008 to cover living and study expenses for the normal duration of the program at UCL.
- Flight to and from the UK; UK study visa costs; English language assessment costs; health test costs; and the NHS Immigration Health Supplement charge.
- 100 Bartlett Master’s application fee waivers worth £90 each are available on a first-come, first-served basis.
- All Promise scholars will receive on-going academic and career support during their study.

- The Bartlett Promise application form will be opened on 14 February 2025 and be closed on 28 March 2025 at 23.45 BST.
- Applications to Bartlett master’s courses open on 17 October 2025. Early application is advised.
- To apply for the scholarship, you must have received an offer of admission to a Bartlett master’s course by 28 March 2025.
