The Equity and Merit Scholarships are awarded to academically excellent students who can significantly contribute to sustainable development in their home countries. The University of Manchester, known for its outstanding facilities and wide range of courses, is globally respected for its teaching excellence.
The scholarship is available to students from 20 developing countries across Africa, Asia, and South America. It is open to self-sponsored EU/international applicants who have an offer to study one of the Global Development Institute (GDI) master’s courses.
Requirements for the University of Manchester Equity and Merit Scholarship
To be eligible for this scholarship, applicants must:
- Hold an offer to study at the University of Manchester.
- Meet the requirements to obtain a postgraduate degree at the University.
- Be a resident and citizen of Ethiopia, Malawi, Rwanda, Tanzania, Uganda, or Zimbabwe and have not previously studied outside of Africa (training of six months or less does not count).
- Have at least two years of professional experience related to the chosen field of study (unpaid internships or voluntary work are not included).
- Hold a bachelor’s degree with an overall excellent grade, typically placing in the top 10% of the class.
- Be committed to returning home and demonstrate the potential to positively impact the future of their home country.
- Have a clear idea of how studying at Manchester will benefit their career and the wider community.
