Requirements for Blue Book Traineeships Program Qualification

The traineeship is open to all EU citizens, regardless of age, and a limited number of places are available for non-EU nationals. Applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Education: Completed a standard 3-year higher education degree (minimum EQF 6 level), equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree. Applicants must provide a certificate or official confirmation from their university.
  • Work Experience: No prior work experience exceeding 6 weeks in any EU institution, body, agency, delegation, with Members of the European Parliament (MEPs), or Advocates General at the Court of Justice of the European Union (EUCJ).
  • Language Proficiency:
    • Administrative Traineeship: Very good knowledge of two EU official languages, one at C1 or C2 level (English, French, or German) and the second at B2 level.
    • Non-EU Nationals: Only one procedural language required at C1 or C2 level.
    • Translation Traineeship: Ability to translate into your main language from two other official EU languages. One source language must be English, French, or German at C level, and the second source language at B2 level.

Interview Process and Venue

Applications are assessed based on academic profile, language skills, and additional competences, including international profile, work experience, certificates, and other achievements. Quotas by nationality are applied to ensure a balanced representation of EU candidates and smaller countries.
