The Federal Government of Nigeria has officially released the results of the 2024 National Common Entrance Examination (NCEE). These results determine admissions into Junior Secondary School 1 (JSS1) of the Federal Unity Colleges. The announcement was made by Yusuf Sununu, the Minister of State for Education, during a press conference held in Abuja on Tuesday. He provided a detailed breakdown of the examination results and the admissions process.
Out of a total of 71,291 candidates who registered for the NCEE, 66,931 students took the exam. Unfortunately, 4,360 registered candidates did not attend the examination. The highest score achieved was 203 out of a possible 210, while the lowest score recorded was one. Minister Sununu highlighted these key points: “Out of the maximum obtainable score of 210, one candidate obtained the highest score of 203, while 13 candidates obtained the lowest score of one.”
This year, 52 students were caught cheating during the exams, which is more than ever before. Two students were from Lagos State, and fifty were from Rivers State. This is a significant increase compared to previous years.
Sununu also discussed the results of the examination for the Federal Government Academy (FGA). Out of 2,649 candidates who registered, 2,336 sat for the exam, and 313 were absent. The highest score in this exam was 180, and the lowest score was five.
The criteria for selecting students into Federal Unity Colleges remain unchanged. The admissions process is based on 60% merit, 30% equality of states, and 10% special needs. The minister urged the Senior Secondary Education Department to ensure that the admission processes are completed on time and adhere strictly to these criteria. This is essential to maintain the integrity and credibility of the education system.
Sununu emphasized the government’s commitment to a fair and transparent admissions process. He highlighted the importance of selecting qualified candidates based on the established criteria to promote equal educational opportunities for all students across Nigeria. This comprehensive announcement shows the Federal Government’s dedication to maintaining high standards in the education sector and ensuring that the admissions process to Unity Schools is conducted with fairness and transparency. The focus remains on merit and equal opportunity, reflecting the government’s broader educational objectives.
The release of the 2024 NCEE results marks a significant step in the academic journey of thousands of young Nigerians. With a clear admission process and stringent measures against malpractice, the government aims to uphold the quality and integrity of the nation’s education system. This initiative not only supports academic excellence but also promotes a culture of fairness and equality in education.
