The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has clarified that candidates are not restricted to writing the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) in the same state where they registered.
Dr. Fabian Benjamin, JAMB’s Public Communication Advisor, made this known in a statement issued in Abuja, ahead of the 2025 UTME, which is scheduled to commence on April 25.
According to him, candidates have the liberty to register for the UTME from any part of the country and choose any town nationwide as their preferred examination location.
“Computer-Based Test (CBT) centres are organized based on towns for convenience,” he said. “Candidates can select any town where they wish to sit for the examination, regardless of their registration location.”
Dr. Benjamin emphasized that the exam centres are strictly assigned within the selected towns. For instance, if a candidate chooses Garki as their exam town, they will be assigned to a CBT centre within Garki and not elsewhere.
He further explained that the flexibility in location is intended to accommodate candidates’ preferences and ease logistical challenges. “A candidate who registers in Lagos can decide to sit the exam in Sokoto or any other town in Nigeria. It’s all about what works best for them,” he added.
JAMB’s clarification aims to dispel misconceptions and ensure that candidates make informed decisions regarding their examination locations.
