Scholarship Details
The Friedrich Ebert Stiftung (FES) supports all academic subjects. Students from public or state-approved universities and from universities of applied sciences/polytechnic colleges and offers postgraduate programmes.
Applicants come from countries in the Global South (Asia, Africa, Latin America), post-Soviet states as well as eastern and south-eastern European (EU) countries.
Students in any subject area are eligible to apply, if they demonstrate excellent academic merit, already study in Germany, are committed to the values of social democracy and live by them.
Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for the Friedrich Ebert Stiftung Scholarship Programme:
- Required Languages: English / German
- Eligible Countries: Gifted students from Africa, Asia, Latin America and Eastern Europe are eligible to apply
- The candidates’ aptitudes and personalities show excellent promise for an academic or professional career.
- Admission to study or enrolment at a state or state-recognized higher-education institution in Germany
- Have sufficient knowledge of German, although the courses are held in English.
- Show commitment to the values of social democracy.
- Be above-average performance in school and studies
- Personality – Applicants must possess the following qualities:

Scholarship Benefits
Successful applicants of this scholarship will receive:
- 934 € per month (basic scholarship programme) / 1.200 € per month (graduate scholarship programme)
- 276 € of family allowance, if applicable
- Refund of health care costs
- Any income exceeding 400 € per month will be credited against the scholarship.
