The University of Ibadan (UI), through its Department of Communication and Language Arts (CLA), is set to collaborate with INTI International University, Malaysia, on a faculty and student exchange program.
The Dean of the Faculty of Arts, Prof. Solomon Oluwole Oyetade, announced this during a visit by INTI team leader, Prof. Miew Luan, to the department. He assured that UI, through its Office of International Programmes and Faculty of Arts, is committed to making the partnership a success. Accompanied by officials from the Office of International Programmes, he described the collaboration as a mutually beneficial initiative for both institutions.
Prof. Oyetade highlighted the Department of Communication and Language Arts as a leader within the Faculty of Arts, known for its excellence in communication studies. He emphasized that graduates of the department have made significant impacts across Nigeria and beyond, making it a prime choice for such an academic partnership.
Prof. Miew Luan, a Professor of Communication and Liberal Studies at INTI International University, reaffirmed her institution’s readiness to collaborate with the department through student exchange programs, capacity-building initiatives, and scholarship opportunities. She expressed enthusiasm for the partnership, noting that it would foster cross-cultural understanding and broaden students’ exposure to different value systems. She also emphasized the importance of learning beyond textbooks and digital resources, stressing the need for students to engage with native knowledge and cultural experiences.
Head of the Department of Communication and Language Arts, Dr. Adebisi Olawuyi, pledged full commitment to the collaboration, particularly in supporting early-career scholars. Professors Nkechi Christopher and Olusola Oyewo also praised the initiative, stating that it would provide valuable opportunities for both emerging and experienced researchers.
The event was attended by other academics from the department, who welcomed the partnership and its potential benefits for both institutions.
