The Federal University Dutsinma (FUDMA) in Katsina State has been shut down indefinitely following violent protests by students over the alleged killing of one of their colleagues.
Investigations by The Nation revealed that two students were reportedly shot by members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), leading to the tragic death of one.
A source explained that the CJTF mistook the students for bandits, which resulted in the fatal shooting of one of them. Outraged by the incident, students took to the streets of Dutsinma, destroying properties in protest.
In response, the university’s Senate ordered the immediate closure of the institution and declared a one-week mid-semester break, effective Monday, February 24, 2025.
Vice-Chancellor Prof. Armaya’u Hamisu Bichi, who conveyed the decision, directed all students to vacate the campus by 6:00 pm on Monday.
“The management wishes the students a happy and peaceful mid-semester break,” he stated.
