The Federal Government has launched a nationwide on-the-spot assessment of both public and private schools to enhance education quality and shut down institutions operating as ‘miracle centres.’

This initiative, directed by the Minister of Education, Dr. Olatunji Alausa, aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration’s commitment to ensuring that all schools in Nigeria meet the required standards, providing a conducive environment for effective teaching and learning.

Leading the inspection team at Redeemers Teap International School, Garki, Abuja, on Tuesday, Rukayat Ibrahim, Deputy Director of the Quality Assurance Department at the Federal Ministry of Education, stated that the exercise aims to keep schools on the right track.

“The assessment is happening simultaneously across the country at both primary and secondary school levels, in public and private institutions,” she explained. “It is a quick, targeted evaluation—lasting just a few hours—allowing us to cover more schools efficiently. The findings will be concise and actionable, unlike the lengthy reports we’ve produced in the past.”

The team assessed various facilities, including classrooms, laboratories, ICT centers, clinics, and perimeter fencing. Redeemers Teap International School was commended for its high standards.

Yinka Amodu, also from the Quality Assurance Department, emphasized that the monitoring is meant to benefit schools, students, parents, and the overall education system.

“If there are no checks and balances, the sector cannot progress. We cannot keep doing the same thing and expect different results,” he said.

The school’s principal, Olajumede Yusuf, acknowledged the significance of the exercise, describing it as a first-of-its-kind initiative. He pledged to address any identified areas needing improvement.
