The Oyo State Government has reaffirmed its dedication to ensuring the welfare and security of National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members posted to the state for their mandatory one-year service.

Governor Seyi Makinde made this known during the closing ceremony of the 2024 Batch C Stream 2 Corps members at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in Iseyin. Represented by the Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Wasilat Adegoke, the governor assured corps members of a conducive environment throughout their service year.

“I want to assure you that the government remains committed to addressing your welfare needs and ensuring your safety wherever you are posted,” Makinde stated.

He encouraged corps members to contribute meaningfully to their host communities by initiating impactful projects. He also highlighted the importance of the Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) program in equipping them for self-reliance after service.

“There are numerous opportunities where you can apply your energy, education, and skills to build a successful future. I urge you to make the most of the next eleven months and focus on job creation rather than job seeking,” he advised.

Makinde further urged corps members to embrace the NYSC motto, “Service and Humility,” and actively participate in national development.

Similarly, the Oyo State NYSC Coordinator, Odoba Abel Oche, commended the state government for its unwavering support of the scheme. He expressed gratitude to Governor Makinde and the Commissioner for Youth and Sports for their contributions.

Reiterating the importance of corps members’ welfare, Oche appealed to employers to provide them with essential support such as accommodation and transportation allowances.

“We urge employers to treat corps members as their own children by ensuring they have the necessary support to thrive. Their welfare remains our top priority,” he stated.

He also encouraged corps members to remain diligent, law-abiding, and committed to self-development, emphasizing the need to acquire additional skills to enhance their future prospects.
