A 200 level Mass Communication student at the University of Ilorin, whose identify has been withheld reportedly took his own life at his residence in the Oke-odo area of Tanke, llorin.

The student was reported to have ingested a poisonous substance last week while his roommate was
attending lectures. A suicide note found at the scene detailed his struggle with financial hardship, which he said had become unbearable.

His close friend, speaking under anonymity, said, “We returned to find a suicide note where he explained his struggles and decision to take the substance.”

The deceased, known for his academic excellence with a cumulative grade point average of 4.5, was reportedly sponsored by his widowed mother, a retired school
teacher.

In a related incident, another Mass Communication student narrowly escaped death on Monday evening after attempting suicide on campus. Passers-by reportedly found him with a rope around his neck in a nearby bush and quickly raised the alarm. He was rushed to the university’s medical centre for urgent care.
