A university in Cross River State , Arthur Jarvis University in Akpabuyo Local Government Area has expelled five students and suspended five others over bullying, truancy, and misconduct.

In a statement by the university’s acting Registrar, Mary Dan-Abia, on Monday, the decision was a resolution of a disciplinary panel on the matter after the affected students had appeared before the panel.

The five students were involved in two incidents of fighting and gang bullying, which occurred on December 12, 2024, and January 18, 2025, respectively.

She stated “After thoroughly reviewing the evidence and other information presented during the hearing, the panel, in consultation with principal officers including the Chancellor, Vice Chancellor, and Registrar, delivered the verdict.

“Five students directly involved in the incidents were expelled, while five others with lesser involvement received suspensions: three for one month and two for two weeks. The affected students have since vacated the University campus,” the statement read.

The decision came just days after the Chancellor urged students to steer clear of vices and misconduct.

The statement quoted the chancellor as emphasizing that any student found guilty of drug use, drug possession, drug peddling, or drug smuggling on campus would face automatic expulsion.

“The verdict serves as a deterrent to other students and a powerful reminder that respect for others and adherence to the rules of the university are non-negotiable.

“For the expelled, the suspended, and every other student, the message is clear and unmistakable: No student is above the rules,” the statement read.
