Airtel Nigeria recently organized an essay competition as part of its Employee Volunteer Scheme (EVS) to celebrate the International Day of Education.
The event, aimed at enhancing writing skills, critical thinking, and self-expression among students, took place across the company’s adopted schools nationwide. It highlighted the exceptional creativity of primary school pupils and underscored Airtel’s commitment to inspiring future generations.
The competition, open to pupils from Basic 4 to 6, focused on themes such as education, technology, and community development. After a comprehensive selection process, the top students from each participating school competed in the final round, with Airtel employees serving as judges and mentors.
Schools that took part included Oremeji Primary School II in Lagos, St. John’s Primary School in Ogun State, and Iyeru-Okin Primary School in Kwara State, among others across the country.
The final round featured 15 top participants from each school, who presented their essays before a panel of judges. Ultimately, winners and runners-up were chosen from each school, with 14 champions nationwide.
Prizes for the winners, presented by Airtel, included books, digital tablets, mathematical sets, and writing tools.
Airtel Nigeria CEO Dinesh Balsingh praised the competition as an example of the company’s commitment to fostering creativity and academic excellence in young learners. “We aim to empower students to reach their full potential and inspire positive change in their communities,” Balsingh said.
The essay competition is part of Airtel Nigeria’s Adopt-a-School program, a key initiative under the company’s corporate social responsibility efforts to promote educational development in underserved areas. Through this program, Airtel is focused on equipping students with the necessary skills for a brighter future.
