The Minister of Education, Tunji Alausa, has announced that President Bola Tinubu has tasked the Ministry with developing innovative strategies to improve the global ranking of Nigerian universities.

This initiative, he stated, led to his appointment as the substantive Minister of Education during the recent cabinet reshuffle.

Alausa revealed that five universities are currently being shortlisted for specialized training, with plans to extend the knowledge gained to other institutions nationwide.

He emphasized the government’s commitment to addressing the issue of “miracle centres,” which contribute to widespread examination malpractice.

In an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Alausa expressed the administration’s resolve to put an end to fraudulent practices that enable students to cheat during national exams. He accused certain private secondary schools of attracting students with promises of guaranteed success in exams, regardless of their academic performance.

“These so-called miracle centres are a major problem, promoting cheating and undermining the integrity of our educational system,” Alausa said. “We are taking decisive steps to eliminate this menace.”

The minister further highlighted ongoing efforts to improve the higher education sector, noting that the government’s strategic plan aims to strengthen Nigerian universities and reduce the prevalence of exam malpractice, ensuring fair opportunities for all students.
