Bauchi State government has approved foreign scholarships for 50 students in the sate to study abroad.
Fifty beneficiaries the of foreign scholarships awarded will soon depart for China.
The Permanent Commissioner of the Bauchi State Scholarship Board, Hussaini Saraki, made this known in an interview with journalists on Monday.
According to him, the development has put the state as a frontrunner among North-East states, including Adamawa, Yobe, and Borno, in awarding scholarships to students for studies, particularly in China.
He said this showcases the state government’s commitment to advancing education and global opportunities for its youths.
Saraki noted, “Over the past few years, Governor Bala Mohammed has been approving scholarships for students to study medicine and other millennium courses in Chinese universities.”
He said already, the next contingent of students proceeding to China on scholarship are processing their travelling documents.
“As I am talking to you, approval has been granted and screening has been conducted to take the next batch of 50 Bauchi students to China.
“These students are now at the preparatory stage. Having their visa, other relevant travelling documents, and police character clearance.
“Governor Bala Mohammed is the first from the northeast to approve to take students to China on scholarships, though Adamawa, Borno, and Yobe are also on the list.”
Saraki said since the inception of Governor Bala Mohammed’s led administration, backlogs of unpaid international scholarships to Bauchi students across the world have been paid.
“Governor Bala Mohammed has been doing wonderfully well. Before the coming of Governor Bala Mohammed onboard, the scholarship paid to students was nothing to write home about. For instance, university students were paid N15,000, but the governor reviewed it upward to N22,000, while polytechnic students got N15,000.
“At the moment, the governor is considering a review of the scholarship further up considering the current hard economic situation in the country. The governor is ever willing to come in and help Bauchi Students,” the Permanent Commissioner said.
