In a bid to enhance technical education in the state, the Ogun State Economic Transformation Project (OGSTEP), a World Bank-supported initiative, has commenced the rehabilitation of all eight technical colleges to align with international standards.
The Commissioner for Finance and Chief Economic Adviser, Dapo Okubadejo, and the Commissioner for Agriculture, Bolu Owotomo, disclosed this during a site inspection of the Government Science and Technical College in Ijebu Ode.
Okubadejo, who also serves as the Chairman of the OGSTEP Project Steering Committee, stated that the initiative aims to standardize technical and vocational education while equipping students with industry-relevant skills through the deployment of modern machinery and tools.
He emphasized the government’s commitment to developing both physical infrastructure and human capital, introducing smart classrooms and cutting-edge equipment to prepare students to compete globally and meet the industrial demands of the state.
The Commissioner further noted that similar inspection and rehabilitation efforts would continue across the remaining seven technical colleges in Ogun State.
He highlighted that OGSTEP’s scope goes beyond education to include agricultural development and business-enabling environment grants, which collectively support the state’s economic transformation.
The OGSTEP Project Coordinator, Mrs. Mosun Owo Odusi, praised the state government’s efforts to upskill teachers and foster partnerships with local industries. These collaborations, she noted, will ensure that both students and educators gain practical, hands-on experience.
“The upgraded facilities will not only benefit students but also provide a platform for industries to train and enhance the skills of their workforce,” Odusi said.
The initiative represents a significant step toward transforming Ogun State’s technical education sector, ensuring it meets global standards and supports the state’s industrial growth through a competent and well-equipped workforce.
