President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has extended support to Student Union Government (SUG) Presidents across Nigeria’s 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) by providing palliatives.
Facilitated by the Office of the Senior Special Adviser on Students Engagement, Hon. Sunday Asefon, the distribution of rice took place on Tuesday in Abuja.
Speaking at the event, Asefon highlighted that the initiative was part of the President’s commitment to supporting students and their communities, particularly during December 2024. He explained that while some student leaders received their palliatives last December, the rice for SUG Presidents arrived late, prompting the decision to distribute it now.
“Today, the SUG Presidents across the Federation will receive their rice from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, a leader who understands the vital role of students as both the leaders of tomorrow and contributors to today. Unfortunately, the rice arrived in Abuja around December 28th last year. This year, we invited them to Abuja to personally hand over the rice. Two SUG Presidents were selected from each zone to represent others and oversee the palliative distribution,” Asefon said.
He noted that this marks the first time in Nigeria’s history that a sitting President has directly engaged with student leaders, particularly SUG Presidents, during December.
Asefon assured that students would benefit even more from Presidential initiatives in 2025, stating, “This is a moment for Nigerian youth and students to reflect, engage, and share their thoughts with the government. Students are beginning to feel the presence and impact of the administration.”
Expressing gratitude, Citizen Fahad Abdullahi, SUG President of Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University (ATBU), Bauchi, commended President Tinubu for the initiative and acknowledged the efforts of Comrade Asefon in facilitating the program.
