The UBA National Essay Competition, organized by UBA Foundation, is designed to promote reading and intellectual growth among senior secondary students in Nigeria. This annual competition encourages students to develop their writing skills and engage in healthy intellectual discussions on critical global and local issues.
In 2024, the UBA Foundation is offering N16 million in scholarships to winners of the essay contest. These scholarships will help recipients pursue undergraduate degrees at any Nigerian institution of their choice.

Requirements for the 2024 UBA National Essay Competition:
To participate in the competition, applicants must:
- Be a Nigerian senior secondary school student.
- Submit a passport photograph.
- Provide a scanned copy of a means of identification, such as a birth certificate, national ID, or passport.
Essay Topic:
The topic for the 2024 essay is “The Impact of Carbon Emission on Climate Change in Nigeria: Discuss the Challenges and Proffer Solutions.” Participants are expected to write a well-researched and thoughtful essay that addresses the topic’s key challenges and provides meaningful solutions.
Prizes and Rewards:
The winners of the competition will receive educational grants to attend any African university of their choice. The prize breakdown is as follows:
- First place: ₦7.5 million.
- First runner-up: ₦5 million.
- Second runner-up: ₦3.5 million.
