Covenant University Tops Nigeria’s University Rankings for 2024

Covenant University has proudly claimed the title of Nigeria’s best university for 2024, according to the latest Times Higher Education World University Rankings. This prestigious ranking evaluates universities worldwide based on several performance metrics, highlighting Covenant University’s leadership in higher education.

The Times Higher Education ranking surveyed 1,907 universities across 108 countries, using 18 performance indicators grouped into five main areas: teaching, research environment, research quality, industry, and international outlook. Covenant University emerged as the top institution in Nigeria, surpassing well-known competitors like the University of Ibadan, which ranked second, and the Federal University of Technology, Akure, which took third place. The University of Lagos followed closely in fourth place.

This year’s rankings also show significant changes in the global higher education landscape. Over 134 million citations from approximately 16.5 million research publications were analyzed, and responses from over 68,000 scholars from around the world contributed to the evaluation. This comprehensive analysis underscores the ongoing progress and contributions of Nigerian universities in the global academic arena.

In addition to Covenant University, other notable institutions made it to the top ten list. Bayero University secured the fifth position, followed by the University of Ilorin in sixth, and the University of Nigeria, Nsukka in seventh. Afe Babalola University ranked eighth, while the University of Benin and the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta rounded out the top ten at ninth and tenth places, respectively.
