UNIOSUN Inducts 199 New Teachers and Awards Scholarships to Top Graduates

UNIOSUN inducts new teachers

Osun State University’s College of Education (UNIOSUN COE) has once again demonstrated its dedication to advancing the teaching profession by inducting 199 graduate teachers into the Teachers’ Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN). The induction ceremony, held at the university’s main campus in Osogbo, marked a significant moment in strengthening Nigeria’s education sector. It highlighted UNIOSUN’s leadership in shaping the next generation of educators.

During the event, the Provost of the College of Education, Professor Florence Adeoti Yusuf, emphasized the critical role teachers play in society. She pointed out that without teachers, no other profession would exist, describing them as the architects of society who lay the foundation for future generations. Her remarks underscored the importance of investing in teacher development to ensure a strong and vibrant educational system.

One of the ceremony’s highlights was the recognition of Afolabi Celestina Aderonke, the overall best graduating student. She was awarded a full scholarship, covering her studies from Master’s to PhD level, along with a cash prize of N100,000. The award was sponsored by Senator Kamorudeen Olalere, the Deputy Minority Leader of the 10th Senate. This recognition demonstrates the value placed on academic excellence and the institution’s commitment to supporting its brightest students.

Additionally, several other students were rewarded for their outstanding academic performance, having achieved a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) above 4.0. Olawoyin Kebeerat Gbemisola, Eboda Abosede Mary, Ajayi Muizat Gbemisola, Abdulsalam Amirah Ayomide, Makinde Zainab Akonke, and Odeyemi Temiloluwa Faith each received N100,000, courtesy of Professor Dayo Akinmoladun and Crown Prince Babajide Agunbiade Oke of the Ipetu-Ijesa Kingdom. These awards reflect the institution’s commitment to recognizing and rewarding academic excellence.

The guest lecturer, Dr. Adeyinka Oluwaseun Kareem, encouraged the newly inducted teachers to embrace technological tools to enhance their creativity and personal development. His address highlighted the increasing importance of technology in education and the need for teachers to continuously improve their skills to remain relevant in the evolving landscape of teaching and learning.

UNIOSUN’s Vice-Chancellor, Professor Odunayo Clement Adebooye, also praised both students and staff for their hard work and achievements. He emphasized the university’s commitment to excellence and urged for continued collaboration between students, staff, and stakeholders. The event concluded with the presentation of certificates to all the newly inducted teachers by the Registrar of TRCN, Professor Josiah Olusegun Ajiboye.

In his closing remarks, Dr. Jubril Busuyi Fakokunde, the Chairman of the Local Organising Committee (LOC), encouraged the inductees to uphold the high standards of the UNIOSUN College of Education and to continue being exemplary ambassadors for the institution.
