No fewer than 49 Higher National Diploma (HND) final-year students of Moshood Abiola Polytechnic (MAPOLY) are at risk of expulsion after a result verification exercise revealed they allegedly submitted fake National Diploma (ND) results during their admission process.

The polytechnic’s recent verification process uncovered discrepancies in the results submitted by students across various departments, including Mass Communication, Pharmaceutical Technology, Marketing, Science Laboratory Technology, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, and Accountancy.

The institution disclosed that some of the fake ND results were purportedly obtained from other schools, including The Polytechnic, Ibadan; The Federal Polytechnic, Ilaro; Adeseun Ogundoyin Polytechnic, Eruwa; and Ibarapa Polytechnic, Eruwa, in Oyo State.

MAPOLY’s Public Relations Officer, Yemi Ajibola, explained that the verification exercise is part of routine measures to ensure the authenticity of academic documents submitted by students.

“We have internal mechanisms for verifying results submitted by every student of the polytechnic,” Ajibola stated. “Some results are pending verification because the originating institutions have yet to confirm them, while others have been found to be fake. The delay was due to administrative issues, which we are resolving.”

Ajibola clarified that the students in question would not be expelled immediately but would be given an opportunity to defend the authenticity of their results.

“The institution will write to each affected student, requesting them to come and defend their submitted results. If an error is detected in the verification process, it will be rectified. However, any student unable to substantiate their result will be expelled,” he said.

This development follows MAPOLY’s recent announcement of an indefinite closure of the institution to forestall a planned protest by students, likely in response to the verification exercise and its implications.

The polytechnic’s management has reiterated its commitment to maintaining academic integrity and ensuring that only qualified candidates are admitted into its programs.
