No fewer than 207 secondary school teachers in Zamfara State, whose salaries were suspended due to truancy, have publicly apologized to Governor Dauda Lawal for their misconduct.
The teachers presented their apology letters on Friday through the Commissioner for Education, Science, and Technology, Mallam Wadatau Madawaki. They admitted to being absent from their classrooms and pledged to improve their commitment to duty.
Speaking on behalf of the suspended teachers, Mallama Nafisa Isah and Mallam Abubakar acknowledged their absenteeism and sought the government’s forgiveness.
“We believe in the compassion of Governor Dauda Lawal and the leadership of the Commissioner for Education. We sincerely regret our actions and ask for forgiveness,” they stated.
Earlier, Commissioner Madawaki explained that the suspension followed a verification exercise initiated by the state government to identify genuine teachers and enhance their welfare.
“The committee discovered that some teachers were frequently absent from class, engaged in truancy, or were illegally receiving salaries from multiple jobs,” Madawaki revealed.
He further noted that the affected teachers voluntarily decided to apologize to the government, the education ministry, and parents for their negligence.
