The World Trade Organization (WTO) Internship Program is now open for applications from students in developing countries. This program offers students from WTO member and observer countries a unique chance to gain invaluable experience working at the WTO. Selected applicants receive comprehensive training, mentorship, and a monthly stipend of CHF 1800.

About the WTO Internship Program

The WTO Internship Programme is designed to provide postgraduate students with practical experience working at the WTO Secretariat in Geneva. There are three main internship programs:

  1. WTO Internship Programme: Open to postgraduate students from all WTO members and countries or customs territories engaged in accession negotiations.
  2. China LDC and Accessions Programme: Also known as the China WTO Accession Internship Programme.
  3. WTO Support Programme for Doctoral Studies.

Interns are assigned to various divisions based on their area of study, including trade law, economics, statistics, trade policy, languages, administration (procurement, finance, human resources), information, communication, external relations, and information management.

Requirements for the 2024 WTO Internship

To qualify for the WTO Internship, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  1. Be a national of a WTO member state or a country/customs territory engaged in accession negotiations.
  2. Have completed undergraduate studies in a relevant discipline and at least one year of postgraduate studies.
  3. Be between 21 and 30 years old during the internship period.

Benefits and Duration

The WTO Internship lasts up to six months, providing a daily allowance of CHF 60 (including weekends and official holidays). Interns also receive medical health insurance coverage during their tenure.

Candidates must submit the following documents:

  1. Completed online application form.
  2. Statement of purpose.
  3. CV/Resume.
  4. Letter of recommendation.
  5. Passport.
  6. Academic transcript.

Application Process

Interested applicants should follow these steps to apply:

  1. Visit the WTO external jobs platform to submit their applications.
  2. Follow the system’s instructions for online application procedures.
  3. Only candidates selected for an interview will be contacted.

Applications are reviewed on an ongoing basis, and suitable candidates are maintained on a roster for one year. The WTO does not have a specific recruitment period for this internship program.
