The Miles Morland Foundation (MMF) is a UK registered charity founded by Miles Morland, after a successful career investing in Africa. The foundation’s primary mission is to support African entities that enable Africans to have their voices heard, particularly through writing and literature.

MMF Writing Scholarship

The 2024 Morland Writing Scholarships will open for entries on Monday, 1st July, with a submission deadline of Friday, 20th September. This year, four new scholars will be selected from numerous applicants by a panel of judges. The winners will be announced in November.

Aim and Benefits of MMF Writing Scholarship

  • Grant Amount: £18,000, paid monthly over twelve months.
  • Additional Research Time: Scholars writing non-fiction may receive an extra grant for up to eighteen months.

Requirements for MMF Writing Scholarship Qualification

  • Submission: An excerpt of 2,000 – 5,000 words from a published work offered for sale. Evidence of publication and sale is required.
  • Evaluation: The work will be judged on literary merit by the MMF panel.
