The Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) has confirmed that it will release a detailed list of institutions that have submitted student data for the NELFUND Student Verification System (SVS). This list, set to be published on June 24, 2024, aims to make it easier for students to apply for loans and ensure fairness in the application process.

According to Nasir Ayitogo, NELFUND’s Head of Media, the list will include both Federal and State-owned universities across Nigeria. He stressed how important it is for applicants and universities to participate fully in this process, which follows the recent signing of the Student Loans (Access to Higher Education) Act by President Bola Tinubu.

Ayitogo mentioned that many Federal universities have already completed their submissions. Meanwhile, efforts are ongoing to finalize submissions from state-owned institutions to ensure that all eligible students are included in the SVS.

Under the new law, student applicants must have their details in their university’s dataset submitted to NELFUND SVS for automatic verification. Missing this step could mean their application won’t be considered, so it’s crucial for universities to provide accurate and complete information.

The Student Loans (Access to Higher Education) Act empowers NELFUND to provide loans for tuition, fees, and living expenses to eligible Nigerian students at approved public universities and vocational schools. This law is aimed at making higher education more accessible and supporting skill development nationwide.
