LASU Gets Approval for 44 University Courses

LASU course accreditation success

Lagos State University (LASU) has received good news – the National Universities Commission (NUC) has given accreditation to 44 of its courses. This happened after the NUC conducted an assessment in October and November 2023.

The Vice-Chancellor of LASU, Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, announced this in a statement shared with the media on Tuesday in Lagos. She said that out of the 44 courses assessed, 43 got full accreditation, while only one course, ‘Computer Science Education’, got interim accreditation.

Prof. Olatunji-Bello said this result means LASU achieved about 99% success, which is a new record for the university in recent times. She said this is another major milestone in achieving the six goals set by the current administration, the first being getting accreditation for courses.

The accredited courses include postgraduate programs like MSc Banking and Finance, MSc Insurance, MSc Marketing, and MSc Transport Management. Undergraduate courses like Industrial Relations, Personnel Management, Insurance, Management Technology, Marketing, and Public Administration also got accreditation.

Other accredited programs are in fields like Agriculture, Fisheries, Foreign Languages, History, Philosophy, Theatre and Media Arts, Mass Communication, Computer Science, Education, Engineering, Law, Dentistry, Medicine, and Science subjects like Biochemistry, Botany, Chemistry, and Microbiology.

Prof. Olatunji-Bello thanked the Lagos State Government, the Commissioner for Tertiary Education, members of the university’s governing council, and all stakeholders involved in the LASU project for this success.
