The University of Pretoria LLM Scholarship is a one-year intensive master’s program in Human Rights and Democratisation in Africa. 25-30 exceptional students will spend six months in Pretoria and six months at one of 12 partner universities across Africa.
Graduates join the 537-member HRDA Alumni Association, active in various human rights roles from grassroots to international organizations like the African Union and United Nations.
Eligibility Requirements
To be considered, applicants must:
- Be from an African country
- Be invited to apply for the LLM/MPhil in Human Rights and Democratisation at Pretoria’s Centre for Human Rights
- Hold a law degree (LLB) or honors degree relevant to human rights and democratization
Selection criteria include:
- Demonstrated commitment to African human rights and democratization
- Likely to use the degree to further their future career, preferably in their home country
- Geographic representation across African countries
- Gender balance
- Inclusion of persons from vulnerable communities
